I've always known I wanted to do something creative with my life, and it wasn't until this year that I discovered the world of fashion illustration.
I've drawn for as long as I can remember and over the last few years my focus has moved to drawing women, fashion and faces. I never knew a career existed where people draw pretty girls in fantastic clothes; but it does.
Leaving school and not rushing off to university has given me time to discover this industry and the talnted people in it, and help define my goals, as well as try out a few different things - short courses and internships etc.
In February I started an 8-week fashion illustration course, which was my formal introduction to this style of art - learning about special proportions, colour techniques, drawing hair and makeup, clothing and fabric rendering.
I was instantly in love and completely in my element.
This sketch was the first proper fashion illustration I ever did, in the first week of my course - so I thought it was fitting for my first post. It's done in pencil with a dress I found in The Iconic's magazine. While I'm doing a lot more with colour and different art materials now, I think there's something beautiful about simple black and white sketches, and this is still one of my favourite illustrations.
I'll be updating my blog regularly with new and old illustrations - I have quite a backlog I want to comment on, but you can see them now in my Artwork tab.
